VMO strengthening

Dear Fellow yoga participants.

I attaché a practice for strengthening the VMO( vastus medialis)

Most of us have weaker rather than stronger VMOs - this may contribute to knee , feet, and spinal injuries.

There are two approaches required here.

  • 1. Mindful awareness training of the VMO
  • 2. Strength training of the VMO

Mindful training is the ability to be aware of  the concentric contractions and lengthening of a muscle- and the ability to peak contrat these muscles.

Strength training is( in its simplest form) repetition of an exercise until overload is achieved in order to stimulate specific muscular growth, density,  and strength.

In order to increase strength and decrease injury we need to work on both of the above approaches.

The biomechanical alignment of the knee joint is paramount here. It is vital that we complete the poses with correct knee tracking and VMO recruitment. The back of the knee is not yper extended

We will be discussing VMO training during this weeks practice.

***Rememeber if it hurts- Dont do it:)

See you at practice

Kind regards

Lauren
