Getting your children to sleep

Well- Have you been practicing the daily ritual with your children- a sleep ready ritual? - A set of behaviours and actions which induce a sense of calm before rest?

Following predictable behaviour patterns increases our sense of security.

Following predictable behaviour patterns increases our comfort.

Following predictable behaviour patterns increases our sense of confidence. yes thats right- your childs sense of security, comfort, and confidence!

How are you helping your child follow predictable behaviour patterns?

Do you help your child learn and repeat the following important behaviours?

Behaviours which help prepare a child for rest-

  • Have you been encouraging your children to complete tasks at a set time each day?

  • Have you been encouraging your children to keep an orderly bedroom - uncluttered - comfortable?

  • Have you been encouraging your children to commit to a Hygiene routine? Hygiene is important for comfort. A shower or bath, clean teeth, brush hair - all these simple habits help with instilling a sense of comfort.

  • Have you been encouraging your children to Quiet down one hour before bed? - Activities, general movement and speech need to quieten down leading up to bed- time.

It is unlikely that our bodies will feel sleep ready if we have not completed a defined sleep ready ritual leading up to bed time.

___________

As parents we are all busy- we all juggle the balls of work family to the best of our ability- but do we really help our children follow predictable discipline behaviour patterns in order to instil comfort and routine? You have heard of the Childs "security blanket" well following predictable behaviour leading up to bed is like having a security blanket.

By helping our children become sleep ready and follow predictable routine we may very well be helping them form lifelong habits of rest, tranquillity and comfort.

all the best!
